Over Curium

2000 medewerkers werken op vele operationele en commerciële Curium-locaties en voorzien meer dan 14 miljoen patiënten per jaar van diagnostische en therapeutische oplossingen. De producten worden verscheept naar 6000 klanten in 70 landen, in het bijzonder naar de afdelingen Nucleaire Geneeskunde in ziekenhuizen. Curium is daarmee ‘s werelds grootste leverancier van medische isotopen. Naast radioactieve medische isotopen worden ook niet-radioactieve producten geproduceerd. In de ziekenhuizen worden medische isotopen meestal gelabeld met niet-radioactieve dragers, die de isotoop naar het beoogde weefsel-, orgaan- of celtype in het menselijk lichaam brengen. Op deze manier wordt de radioactieve stof naar het verdachte gebied in het menselijk lichaam gebracht.

Functiedoel

The Radiation Safety Technician, EHS is reponsible for implementing portions of the Radiation Protection Program, Environmental Health & Safety Program, supporting policies, programs and procedures as directed by the Radiation Safety Officer.

The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of radiological assignments to monitor and minimize personnel exposures to radiological hazards and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and procedures. This position monitors radiation safety compliance by performing regular radiological surveys, perform instrument calibrations, conduct audits for working areas and processes as necessary, collect and analyze environmental samples. Support or lead specific aspects of the Radiation Protection Program and Environmental Health & Safety Program, as assigned.

Additionally, this position conducts personnel training to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Work at this level is distinguished by the application of technical knowledge of radiation safety, regulatory requirements and guidance as well as interpretation of radiological analyses. This position ensures a positive, safe, healthy, incident-free workplace. Perform similar and related duties as assigned. The use of respirators will be necessary.

Resultaatgebieden

  • Conduct regular radiological surveys of facilities to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct instrument calibrations, leak test of radiation-emitting sources, environmental sampling and analysis of radiological samples.
  • Develop and implement Radiological Work Permits for non-routine radiological activities.
  • Inspect and audit operations involving the use of radioactive materials to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate and site policies, permits, procedures. Recommend and implement corrective actions when appropriate.
  • Generate and maintain appropriate documentation and record keeping in accordance with program documentation requirements.
  • Perform radiological incident investigations and present results to the Radiation Safety Officer or designee. Recommend and implement corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Promote and implement safety programs to maintain a safe working environment through training, awareness, and compliance to policies, programs and procedures.
  • Develop, implement and review Standard Operating Procedures relative to the safe use of radioactive materials and regulatory compliance.
  • Review proposed regulations and evaluate potential program impacts.
  • Provide radiological support to emergency conditions and response.
  • Maintain compliance to federal, state, local, and industry radiation protection regulations.
  • Participate as a department resource during internal company audits or regulatory agency (OSHA, EPA, NRC, MODNR, etc…) inspections.
  • Conducting assigned EHS inspections according to SOP’s, communicating results of identified issues to supervision, and submit/maintain required database entry and form filing systems.
  • Complete EHS permits according to current company policies and SOP’s, submittal for review and approval.
  • Perform assigned department equipment preventive maintenance tasks and reporting activities.
  • Participate in assigned Safety injury and Environmental incident investigations.
  • Serve as chemical/radiological/biohazard emergency spill technician following procedures outlined in the site Emergency Response Plans and SOP’s.
  • Maintain assigned EHS databases by collecting, entering and reporting of assigned EHS data and information.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic radiation, health physics principles, and math
  • Basic technical writing • Basic knowledge of U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations
  • Basic knowledge of cyclotron operations
  • Basic knowledge of gamma spectroscopy systems
  • Basic knowledge of effluent and environmental sampling and analyses
  • Basic knowledge of instrument calibration for radiation measurement devices
  • Basic knowledge of radioactive waste management

Vereisten

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent certification in radiation or physical sciences AND one year of radiation handling or monitoring experience; OR, high school education or equivalent AND three years of radiation monitoring experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Industrial production, laboratory and general office environment. Occasional exposure to radioactive materials may be necessary.
